FREE Early Childhood Screening Event

SATURDAY, APRIL 5, 2025 - LAS VEGAS

First 5 Nevada will be hosting a FREE Early Childhood Screening Event along with our partners from the UNLV Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program and the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) Early Childhood Education Programs.


Time: 10:00am to 2:00pm

Where: College of Southern Nevada (CSN) Charleston Campus Student Union – 6375 West Charleston Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89146

The event will provide no-cost screenings – health, developmental, behavioral – and provide on-site referral to programs and services for families with young children. We'll also have fun activities for children and families, with free give-aways and crafts.

Families are encouraged to sign-up for screenings using the link below. Walk in screenings will be offered on the day of the event if space is available. All are welcome!

Ages & Stages Questionnaire

ASQ-3

ASQ-3 features 30 developmental items which assess 5 areas of development: Communication, Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Problem Solving, and Personal-Social.

  • Provided by Nevada Early Intervention Services (NEIS) and Therapy Management Group
  • Ages Birth to 33 Months Old
  • Time to Complete is Approximately 20-30 Minutes

Sensory Profile II

This screening looks at your child's sensory preferences and is a map to helping families support their children. This screening is recommended if your child has delays in personal or social communication, outbursts, or difficulty in daily activities. It may also be helpful if your child seems to be reluctant to play with others or participate in crafts, play, or eating.

  • Provided by the UNLV Occupational Therapy Doctorate program
  • Appropriate for children of all ages
  • Time to Complete is Approximately 30 Minutes 

Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test

of Visual-Motor Integration

This screening assesses the difference between a child struggling with motor controls versus visual differences. If your child is having trouble with manipulating objects or drawing, this test will determine if your child has vision or motor deficits or even difficulty combining the two.

  • Provided by the UNLV Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program 
  • Ages Two Years and Older 
  • Time to Complete is Approximately 15 Minutes

Needs & Strengths Assessment

Connect Nevada is a care coordination program designed to help children and young adults stay safely at home/in the community with their friends and families instead of other settings outside of the home. We utilize a youth-guided, family-driven, strengths-based approach to mental health services and community supports including intensive home-based therapy, respite, and family and youth peer support services. This screening will help to determine eligibility for the Connect Nevada program.

  • Ages 3 to 20 Years Old and
    • At Risk of Out of Home Placement,
    • Currently in Residential Treatment or Inpatient Setting,
    • Involved With Multiple Child-Serving Systems, or
    • At Risk of Custody Relinquishment Due to Behavioral Health Needs

This screening includes the ASQ-3 and the ASQ-SE which provides a more detailed assessment of social-emotional development.

  • Ages One Month to 5.5 Years Old
  • Time to Complete is Approximately 30-45 Minutes

Peabody Developmental Motor Scales

PDMS-2

This screening evaluates fine and gross motor skills in children. This assessment measures motor skills and identifies which specific skills keep your child from advancing to their next milestones.

  • Ages Birth to 5 Years, 11 Months Old
  • Time to Complete is Approximately 30 Minutes 

WIC Program Screening

Eligible families interested in enrolling in the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada WIC program can complete the screening evaluation which includes height, weight, and hemoglobin (finger stick) to assess nutritional status & identify potential risks for malnutrition, including iron deficiency anemia. This program is offered statewide to eligible families, Tribal membership is not required.

  • For Eligible Pregnant Women & Children Up to Age 3
  • Time to Complete is Approximately 5 Minutes

Developmental Assessment of Young Children

DAYC-2 Communication Domain

This standardized assessment is used to identify children who have a language disorder or delay.  It is composed of 2 subscales:  Expressive Language and Receptive Language.  The Receptive Language is used to evaluate how much language a child understands.  Expressive Communication is used to determine how well a child communicates with others.

  • Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) will be promoting the 5-2-1-0 Healthy Habits Every Day initiative and will have resources like flyers, stickers, and more available to help spread the message and encourage healthy habits.
  • Acelero Learning Clark County Head Start provides pregnant women, infants, toddlers, and their families, health, nutrition, and developmental support, helping low-income families access essential services.
  • Autism Treatment and Assistance Program (ATAP) helps parents and caregivers with the expensive cost of providing Autism-specific treatments to their child with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Currently accepting referrals for children ages 3-19, with or without insurance.
  • Clark County Family Services Foster Care - On any given day there are more than 3000 children in foster care. Learn about the many ways you can support an infant, child, teenager and siblings in foster care. 
  • Clark County School District Child Find supports children and youth ages 3 to 21 who may have developmental delays or special health care needs. Families that have a suspicion of delay or disability will be provided with information on how to request an evaluation for special education services.
  • Clark County School District Family Engagement Department provides current and future CCSD families with valuable resources and learning opportunities to support student achievement from Pre-K through 12th grade.
  • CCSD Nevada Ready! PreK offers full-day preschool at NO COST to families who qualify. Open to children 4 years old. Families must meet the requirements to qualify for enrollment.
  • Collaboration Center Foundation (CCF) is a non-profit organization, and our goal is to create family and peer social engagement, health and wellness, therapy, education, and vocational training to enhance the lives of those living with intellectual, developmental, physical, and learning disabilities. Collaboration Center's 5-acre comprehensive campus houses providers, agencies, and non-profits that serve individuals with disabilities
  • The Division of Welfare and Supportive Services engages clients, staff, and the community to provide public assistance benefits to all who qualify. The updated Access Nevada portal provides online applications for several state financial assistance programs including Medicaid, TANF, SNAP and more.
  • The Moapa Band of Paiutes (MBOP) Tribal Child Care assists eligible Native American/Alaskan Native families living in Clark County with access to high-quality, low-cost childcare. The MBOP Tribal Child Care runs a Tribally Operated Center and a 12-Month Certificate subsidy program.
  • Nevada PEP assists families of children with disabilities and behavioral health needs through support networks and educational workshops on special education, mental health care, and disability-related topics.
  • Nevada Health Centers WIC program is a supplemental food program for women, infants and children (WIC) that provides healthy foods and encourages healthy choices.
  • Nevada Institute for Children's Research and Policy (NICRP) conducts research, evaluation, and advocacy in an effort to enhance the lives of Nevada’s children and families. We work in partnership with the community and house several educational initiatives include Prevent Child Abuse Nevada, the Nevada Afterschool Network, and the Nevada Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. 
  • Sunrise Children’s Foundation (SCF) delivers a full scope of services to children from birth to age five, including home visiting programs, Early Head Start, and WIC.
  • The Children's Cabinet offers a range of parenting classes designed to empower parents with the information and tools necessary for caring and successful child-rearing. Offered both in-person and online, these free sessions are led by experienced instructors and provide practical strategies for all aspects of parenting.
  • UnitedHealthcare Health Plan of Nevada Medicaid has 16 plus value-added benefits at no-cost for their members. The plan offers the largest provider network access in the valley amongst the Managed Care Organization options. Stop by their booth to learn more.
  • Partners in Parenting offers many educational programs, workshops and resources primarily for parents with young children (0-5 years of age) to support healthy child development, school readiness skills and positive parent-child interaction.
  • Vegas PBS offers a wide range of resources and programming for young children. Visit the Vegas PBS booth to learn more, including Carl the Collector, the first PBS KIDS show to feature central characters on the autism spectrum.
