Head Start and Early Head Start are federally funded programs that promote the school readiness of young children from low-income families. Early Head Start typically serves pregnant women and children from birth to age three. Head Start serves children aged three to five years old. Both programs emphasize a holistic approach, considering not only the educational needs of children but also their health, nutrition, and family support to ensure a well-rounded foundation for learning and growth.
The CSA Early Head Start Infant & Toddler Program is a crucial early education service designed to set young children on the path to success in school and life. It serves infants from birth until their third birthday, when they become eligible for Head Start Preschool. This program provides a full day, year-round care in a structured, clean, and safe environment, focusing on individualized learning experiences through play. The curriculum is engaging and fun, enhancing various developmental areas such as social-emotional, cognitive, science, math, language, early reading, art, and physical development. Parental participation is required, with parents/guardians needing to be working, in training, or attending school. The Early Head Start operates all year round, with program hours from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 AM to Noon on Friday. CSA also offers Head Start programs in Washoe County and Lyon County for children ages 3 to 5.
