Head Start and Early Head Start are federally funded programs that promote the school readiness of young children from low-income families. Early Head Start typically serves pregnant women and children from birth to age three. Head Start serves children aged three to five years old. Both programs emphasize a holistic approach, considering not only the educational needs of children but also their health, nutrition, and family support to ensure a well-rounded foundation for learning and growth.
The CSA Head Start Preschool Program is committed to providing young children, aged 3 to 5 years, with vital early education services to foster their success in school and life. It offers individualized learning experiences centered around play in a clean and safe environment. The program's curriculum is designed to be enjoyable and stimulating, promoting areas such as social-emotional and cognitive development, science, math, language, early reading, art, and physical development. There are three session types: half-day, extended day, and full day. For full-day sessions, parents/guardians are required to be working, in training, or attending school. All students receive meals, and the program runs from September to June, with distance learning options also available. CSA also offers Early Head Start programs in Washoe County and Carson City for children ages 0 to 3.
